The End Is…Probably Not Very Near

It’s the end of world as we know it…or is it? The Maya Long Count calendar reaches the end of its cycle this Friday, December 21, and various doomsday theories have predicted either an apocalypse or a global spiritual transformation. We’re hoping for the latter rather than the former, but all signs seem to be pointing to nothing special happening, as NASA points out.

It’s Declared: Social Media Now a Major

In case you missed the news on your Facebook and Twitter feeds, Newberry College, a small, Evangelical Lutheran liberal-arts college in South Carolina, recently announced they will begin offering undergraduate degrees in Social Media as of fall 2013. The interdisciplinary program aims to capitalize on the strengths of Graphic Design, Communications, Business Administration, Psychology and Statistics. Four innovative courses, created specifically for the social media major are also included in the curriculum.

I’ve always considered food to be the most direct connection to a culture, so in a 3-part blog series I’m going to cover cuisines that push the limit about what we come to expect from food, warping aesthetics, changing structure, taste, blending cultures, and making us question what’s edible.
