The Hadaway House Redefines Log Cabin

Vancouver-based Patkau Architects’ masterful Hadaway House in Whistler, British Columbia, is unique for a few obvious reasons – and a few less obvious. Check out the incredible pictures below, and find out what makes this place so special!

Hadaway House was designed from the outside in. Building regulations in this area are strict – from height to lines to even exterior materials. Patkau designed a form that would adhere to the rules while still being what they call “a spaceship in the middle of log cabins”.

The interior was fitted to the exterior to optimize space, views, and structural load – resulting in both fascinating interior shapes and different materials in each area of the house.

While Whistler is a skiing community, the house was built as a summer getaway. That means that in a place that gets notoriously heavy yearly snowfalls, the house needed to be able to weather the storms on its own, and that means a roof designed accordingly.

But mostly: this thing is just cool.
