NOOKA
The NOOKA App for iPhone is a clock app that allows you to customize how you check the time.

Although I like the idea of interesting new ways to look at time, I feel that because we are so used to a standard clock or watch, it’ll be really hard for us to get used to looking at it any other way. A watch is great because I can glance at it for less than a second and know what time it is. I feel that with this app, I would really have to sit there and think to work it out, which kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Unfortunately, despite liking the idea, I feel this is more of a design-over-function app. If you create something to help people, in this case to tell the time, then it has to improve on the experience that they’re accustomed to. This app (no matter how pretty it is) doesn’t make telling the time any easier. It actually masks the simplicity of time-telling behind fancy charts and visuals, taking away and hampering the experience.

A great example of a way to visualise the time, and actually makes it easier to read, is this awesome clock. By using common words that we say when telling the time, this clock visually speaks to us, and instantly we can see what time it is.

Something that tells us the time has to be simple and instant or it will fail in its intended purpose.
