Hacking, Hackers & the Hacked: An Infographic

A six-letter password, exclusively composed of lowercase letters, can be hacked in as little as 10 minutes. Just adding three more characters and sprinkling in some uppercase letters and numbers renders your password way less vulnerable and may require as much as 44,530 years to hack.

That’s among the facts displayed in “Hack Attack: All You Need to Know,” an infographic released by Gadgets And Gizmos. The graphic was released in the wake of an announcement by the notorious hackers of Lulz Security, a.k.a. lulzsec, that the group was retiring from hacking. Their alleged feats of hacking prowess over just the past few months include hacking into the CIA’s website and compromising 77 million user accounts at the PlayStation Network.

The graphic’s a treasure trove of hacking information includes the fact that 31% of hacks originate in the U.S., where 83% of folks do not use a separate email address for online purchases. Maybe that’s why 73% of Americans have fallen victim to cyber crimes of one kind or another. Yikes.
