The History of SXSW

Ever wonder how SXSW became the cultural behemoth it is today? Partnering again with Eloqua, we’ve assembled some of the most interesting facts about the Austin-based festival since it came into existence some 25 years ago. The History of SXSW infographic also maps out the immense growth in attendance over the past few years of the music, film, and most recently, the interactive portions of South by South West.

Inside you’ll find out about the flood that halted outdoor shows in 1999, Bill Murray bartending at a local bar (because he can) last year, Twitter and Geosocial’s impact on interactive in 2007 and 2010 respectively, and how cheap the festival passes used to be in 1991.
