Relationships 2.0

“PDA 2.0” and/or the “new PDA.” (Public Display of Affection). Mainly seen as products of social networking phenomena like comments and feeds – though blogs, to some extent too. Basically anywhere you can publicly decry/declare something “affectionate” to or about someone else (which can take forms other than words about a person… Images, etc.), fully knowing that others you know – or they know or neither – will be reading/viewing your PDA 2.0 posting.

While it has similar characteristics to its predecessor (the physical act of displaying affection in public), this new public display of affection is in the domain of the online public. Also it sometimes seems to be done with a certain layer of tounge-and-cheekyness and has what I call the “e-removed factor” (literally “electronically removed” – you can say less or more, craft it, and can be interpreted very differently than in person, etc…).

Of course the PDA acronym has already been coopted in the tech sphere, so this may be a confusing sell if you were to use it as a term, let alone brand it or blog it.

But this and the e-removed factor essentially feeds into my idea of “relationship 2.0” – encompassing a broad spectrum of experiences from eHarmony and social networking sites to chat rooms… to even how me and my girlfriend communicate.

VIRTUAL AFFECTION a.k.a. “e-AFFECTION” a.k.a. AFFECTION 2.0

Meeting, interacting, communicating virtually on Second Life? In a lot of ways, we are already there…
