The Office vs. The Ministry

Re-posted from Forbes.

It’s one of the universe’s most debated questions. No, it has nothing to do with politics, religion, or 2Pac vs. Biggie. It’s whether or not the British version of “The Office” bests the American version. So, is it Ricky Gervais or Steve Carell? Wernham Hogg Paper Company or Dunder Mifflin Paper Company? Gareth or Dwight? Tim or Jim?

It’s a question I’ve asked myself many a time, and although I love them both, I’m going to have to side with the U.S. version (pre-departure of Steve Carell, of course) on this one. The British “Office” was shorter in seasons and thus had a tighter storyline, but the American version has taken this two season UK story to new heights, and is ultimately the better show.

But that may change with some new competition emerging from Afghanistan that might give both shows a run for their money. Using the same mockumentary-style footage made famous by “The Office,” “The Ministry” follows the day-to-day office life at the Afghanistan Ministry of Garbage — complete with nepotism, corruption, a laughable Minister, and tiffs over staplers.
