about jess3 client service lesson 2

sometimes bargaining for consulting fees with clients is like dating women.. other times it's like asking your parents for stuff at xmas time.. you wanna ask for as much as humanely possible.. but you are willing to take whatever they give you (you would assume that based on the year before you would get as much or more?) and you can always throw a tantrum and get nothing.. or like i did.. be a polite tantrum thrower.. and walk away with as much as possible.. but never walk away with nothing (coal)

about Heath Ledger’s Final Portrait

"It “was an idea we discussed together and came up with… it was about how we all have different consciences and voices in our head that tell us what to do and how to react. They’re not good or bad, they’re just voices that we hear, telling us how to behave. That’s what the other figures are in the painting,” says the artist, Vincent Fantauzzo, who painted Heath just weeks before his death.

Something tells me this is going to end up as a poster on the wall of teenagers everywhere for many years to come."

classic shit.

just to give you kids an idea of how classic this is.

this came out when NaS was doing his thing with Illmatic, new york rap was at its pinnacle. Jay emerges as the new star, and this rubbed NaS slightly the wrong way. They didnt do any songs together, but Jay samples NaS on this track. If you notice at the end of the video jay is sitting around playing cards with some friends, including long time partner Dame Dash..... and a young AZ. AZ is one of NaS crew, and was in his Firm team, an experimental album that somehow flopped despite production from Dr.Dre and a team that included NaS, AZ and Foxxy Brown. "Affirmative Action," a song from Nas' second album, It Was Written, featured Foxy Brown, AZ, and Cormega, each taking a verse, along with Nas; it became an album highlight as well as a much-talked-about song on the streets. For The Firm, Cormega was replaced by Nature, reportedly either because Stoute and/or Nas preferred Nature, or because Cormega would not sign a contract with Stoute. Following this replacement, Cormega recorded the inflammatory track "Fuck Nas and Nature" and let it circulate through the mix-tape market.

nas and jay recorded historic hip hop diss tracks, Nas recorded Ether after Jay did The Takeover, which was produced by a young Kanye West!

ironically in 2007, jay signed nas to def jam and they recorded a dead presidents remix.

about claiming your Twitter account on Technorati

at Technology Evangelist shares the 5 steps to getting this going (thanks Ed!):

How do you do it?

1. Click the "Claim Your Blog" link on the homepage.

2. Enter your Twitter Username's URL: http://www.twitter.com/yourusername

3. Choose Post Claim

4. Grab just the URL of the post claim URL and post that as a Twitter tweet. For example, if it said you should post Technorati Profile

Just grab http://technorati.com/claim/abcdefg

and post that as a Tweet on Twitter.

You can add additional text after the URL (give it a space) to explain to your friends what they heck you're doing.

5. Once you've posted your new Tweet, confirm that on Technorati and you'll be good to go.

about MyBlogLog's "New with Me"

Via Ian Kennedy, Product Manager, MyBlogLog (I am sure many of you received this email as well)...

"This feature will use the URLs on the Services tab of your MyBlogLog profile to aggregate your latest activity on sites such as Twitter, Last.fm, Digg, and YouTube. [...] Your latest Flickr photos, Last.fm tracks, and YouTube videos, will all be in one place."

So what does that mean?

"Simply put, the New with Me feature will
transform your static profile into a dynamic one."

Also, so as to avoid a Beacon Level Error, Ian also tells us in the "old-fashioned email" announcement:

"MyBlogLog respects your privacy. We will aggregate and display only information that is publicly available. If you're uncomfortable with MyBlogLog aggregating and displaying publicly available information from a particular service, you can remove that service from your profile at any time."

The only problem with this is many online users aren't necessarily aware of what is publicly available and what isn't -- the "opt-out" model vs. the "opt-in" benefits the platform owner first and foremost, and secondarily, its members who want their data all over the place (believe it or not, some don't and don't readily understand that it is an "opt-out" system).

That said, I am still interested to see how this will work. I have been impressed with the way that platforms like Blogger/WP, del.iciou.us, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr -- to name a few -- have evolved to integrate and "talk" with one another -- truly great "syndication" systems. We'll see how "New with Me" fits in.

about user experience of the future

I believe that the Wii remote represents a glimpse of user experience of the future. I use the term Wii remote lightly, its more likely going to be your cell phone that will allow you to point at stuff and interact with screens in public places. imagine if when you paid for your parking in a garage you just pointed your cell phone at the machine. but.. it gets better. its not just pointing at the machine and your done.. you have options.. yes.. options.. we also like dragging and dropping things.. you can interact with a machine without touching it.. which in itself is a step forward. but if you dont have your cell phone with you.. which is a whole other interesting issue. you could touch this interface and thru a verification system click into your account and make what ever instant transaction was needed

example:

how come on atm machines you dont drag and drop the ammount of money to a bucket.. how come its still such a boring experience? why hasnt a premium bank emerged to provide such a unique experience in a world of cluttered ugly atm machines..
